Nocturne

A nocturne is piece of music written to be played at night. It is supposed to evoke the "night mind" which differs from the working mind of the everyday in that it evokes contemplation of a world beyond the present one. It often inhabits an almost dreamy state and occupies a tone of solitary melancholy, frequently concerned with the theme of death (as in how the night is the dying of the day).
