The Familiar

1. Read the following poems. Each is derived from scenes of ordinary life. Pick the poem you like the best and write one in that author's style paying particular attention to how each author treats what is ordinary. [What kinds of objects does the author focus on? Who speaks? What kinds of things do the characters say? How are they saying them?]

2. When you try to imitate this favorite poem, have your scene take place at a different location and use details from your own life.
