Postcards

1. Choose 5-6 postcards from a supply of postcards that has been collected.

2. Use any information on the front or the back of the cards to create a piece that "moves" from card to card. Emphasize associational thinking—try to create interesting associations from card to card that are not blatant (for example, try to avoid creating an imaginary character that traipses from one locale to another).

3. Don't feel pressured to use all the postcards. Use as many as necessary. If one card triggers a lot of material, stay with it until the material you spontaneously generated around it runs dry.

4. Narratives can work OK with this approach, but often the disparate images allow for a striking image to emerge which may center the piece.
