1. The final will be 50 points.

2. For the final you will locate one poem that has been published on the Internet by a reputable literary publication or web site.

In this poem you will analyze the poem and identify 3 items from this poem that you would like to emulate.These items might include:

• use of specific imagery

• tone

• diction

• use of technique (like cataloging)

• theme

• characterization (the kind of internal conflict?)

• perspective

• plot development

• combination of sound and sense

• etc.

Note: be as specific about what it is that you would like to emulate. For example, don't just say that you are "going to emulate the kind of character that you saw in the piece." Try to elaborate on exactly what it is that you have seen in the piece that you would like to emulate

3.Write a poem of at least 18 lines (and at least 5 words on average in each line) that try to incorporate the items that you listed above that you would like to emulate. Adhere to the guidelines for writing poems that can be found in the criteria for the portfolio.

4. You will turn in the original poem, your short analysis, and the final poem.
